Description: This educational program will help designers and architects have a better understanding of the educational environment as it relates to learning modalities and today’s learners. The content assists architects and designers to communicate effectively with school personnel about learning concepts, teaching methods, and desirable educational outcomes. They will also examine active learning and its impact on the mind and body. Attendees will be challenged to recognize learning spaces that complement the current curriculum and technology. They will also gain an understanding of how collaborative learning spaces impact real-world results. This course will also identify helpful concepts that aid in the design of the educational space resulting in a positive learning environment.

Learning Objectives: After completion of this course, participants will be able to:
•    Have knowledge of higher-order thinking goals and learning modalities
•    Understand the modern learner and the impact of technology
•    Know dynamics of the active learning and teaching methods
•    Recognize and Identify the key learning spaces and identify measurable impact collaborative learning has on student outcomes

How Taught: The CES facilitator utilizes a PowerPoint or slide presentation to provide an in-depth overview of Effective Learning Environments. The session will encourage feedback and questions. This session will challenge participants to think about the learning process and the significant impact that design can have on student performance.
Facilitator Qualifications: Molly Risdall Parnell and Steve Pryor have over 30 years of combined experience in the educational furniture industry. Actively involved with educators throughout the United States they have hands-on experience with the implementation of 21st Century Collaborative environments. Backgrounds also include the successful development of products for modern educational environments.

Target Audience: Architects, specifiers, interior designers, owners, and other design professionals. The ideal audience size can be 10-20 people. This program is basic and meets the needs of professionals at every experience level when designing K-12 and higher learning educational facilities.
