Flowform Modular Seating: Tailor to the Lesson

School classrooms and shared environments are anything but static spaces. Like a chameleon, they must adapt to an evolving ecosystem of factors – subject, pedagogy, grade level and abilities, spatial constraints and more. Furniture should foster student engagement with ergonomic support, functionality and comfort.

It’s a big ask. But that level of responsiveness is possible with design-forward thinking. We designed Flowform Modular Seating to support the move toward flexible, student-centered learning environments that have maximum versatility.

This modular upholstered seating features durable vinyl seats, benches and ottomans (with surface power) that can be arranged into endless configurations. Each piece has straight, rather than curved, edges to allow pieces to fit snuggly together.

What makes this furniture line a champ? Students will love having more options for comfortable, creative seating. Teachers like that Flowform Modular Seating prioritizes focused learning, with firm support and a sit angle similar to a traditional classroom chair.

All pieces come in either 15” and 18” heights for multi-age inclusivity. The 15” is ideal for early elementary students. The 18” aligns with standard chair sizes, making it suitable for older students and high schoolers.

Like our popular Flowform® Learn Lounge Seating, Flowform Modular Seating offers soft, ergonomic contours. But we also added clean, straight edges that let educators firmly fit pieces together, for creating anything from cozy independent learning zones to spacious arrangements for collaborative activities.

Constellate Group Tables: Contemporary Style and Function

The school furniture market evolves alongside modern education practices. At Smith System, we study the horizon constantly to keep our school furniture on point with changing needs.

One of them is that today’s learning commons and libraries are no longer just for “keep-quiet” study sessions. These spaces are hubs for collaborative group work, STEM or STEAM projects, debates, and creative thinking. That requires a large, durable group table. Better yet if it projects a grown-up aesthetic and offers quick mobility.

With modern waterfall sides and sleek design, Constellate Group Tables bring a refined look and everyday flexibility to shared spaces. These new mobile tables come in two heights and two surface sizes that seat anywhere from 4–8 people. Constellate Group Tables are a natural extension of our existing Constellate™ line for libraries and media centers. It includes highly durable, modular storage units, book displays, lockers and shelving that scale via an intuitive starter-adder system.

Cascade Mobile Teacher Workstation: A Portable Homebase

The traditional model of assigning one classroom to a single teacher is shifting, especially in middle and high schools. Teachers now frequently rotate through different rooms, based on subject schedule, shared resources, and even team-teaching needs.

The result is that many “nomadic” teachers are left without a consistent place to work, plan, or store materials. Plus, it can be challenging for educators to navigate those materials (and personal items) between spaces quickly. The Cascade Mobile Teacher Workstation provides a clever solution.

It’s a compact, portable homebase to lighten the physical and mental stress inherent with nomadic teaching. The mobile teacher desk gives educators a sense of continuity and ownership, while keeping them organized. We added many practical features, too, like the ability to adjust from sit-to-stand heights, and lockable compartments.

Teachers can personalize their workstation with optional modesty PET panels that slide to standing height, a left-side or right-side cup holder, and a broad color palette.

Our inspiration for the Cascade Mobile Teacher Workstation came from our existing line of Cascade® Storage cases, cabinets, towers, wardrobes and cubbies. They give teachers a method to conveniently manage the day for themselves and students.

Inclusive, accessible classrooms are a nonnegotiable. Our newest student desk is right-sized to meet ADA standards and thoughtfully designed to visually blend into existing classroom furniture.

The rectangular desk ensures comfortable use for all students, including those in wheelchairs or mobility devices. We also gave the surface write-and-wipe capabilities, for easy notetaking and quick cleanups. It’s ideal for active learning spaces.

Display shelves play a vital role in library settings. They help save space and bump up the visual appeal of featured books, new arrivals, and themed collections that educators want students to explore.
